From the Orange County Register in an article discussing everything from herbal acne treatments to the cause of brain freeze:
A Stanford University study found that washing your face up to four times daily did not significantly change the appearance or condition of acne. Dermatologists also caution against washing too often, as the resulting irritation can exacerbate acne. Instead, they recommend, wash your face twice daily to maintain good overall skin health.
It's sorta counterintuitive to believe that you can't stop an acne outbreak in its tracks simply by washing your face. However, the fact is that the incidence of acne has nothing at all to do with hygiene. Instead, it's just one of those things some people are unlucky to get. Some folks get acne. I got shortsightedness. Richard Symmons is, well, Richard Symmons.
Fortunately, though, all of these problems can be retified. Well, Richard Symmons will have to live with himself until the sweet embrace of the grave, but at least we can now cure short-sightedness and acne. Laser treatment will work wonders for my vision as soon as I find the balls to allow some guy to shoot me in the face with a laser.
Most encouragingly for you, though (and I'm assuming since you're reading this that you suffer from acne - otherwise it's a really boring post), is the fact that acne isn't something you have to live with anymore. In fact, advances in herbal acne treatment methods mean that acne can be cleared up permanently with just a short course of treatment. Of course it costs a little money, but it's just the cross people have to bear. Personally, I have to shell out $40 a month for contact lenses. My little brother has a club foot and has to buy two pairs of shoes every time he goes shoe shopping to account for the size differential. So, we all have these annoying faults, and sometimes we just have to reach into our wallet to fix them while keeping a smile on our faces.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with this statement, washing your face too often won't help you to get rid of adult acne.
